Construction Contract Disputes - Construction Claim Witnesses

Large Construction Delays Looking to Double During 2021 and into 2022

While COVID continues to impact our lives, it also continues to substantially increase large construction projects. It is now COVID-22.

Clients and contractors continue to indicate the majority of construction projects are delivering late and have cost overruns. This also seems to be consistent across multiple construction sectors such as transit and airport complexes, bridges, utilities and energy, roadway and tunnels, infrastructure and the like. The trend looks to be continuing.

One should note that The United States is renowned for some of the grandest infrastructure in the world, including waterways and systems, roadways, and bridges and the like. While this is a good thing, maintenance to existing infrastructure, as well as expansion and new construction projects becomes more and more necessary. With this in mind, it is important to note that relevant agencies seem to possess less engineering talent in their respective line-ups than in prior years.

As president Biden signs a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, we realize the planned work includes a large amount of schedule, cost and engineering risk which has been illustrated in recent infrastructure and construction projects from “coast to coast” in recent times. This generally creates turmoil for the public, traffic jams etc., and ends up costing (taxpayers) more money.
