Engineered Equipment Knowledge is Necessary to Analyze a Construction Project or Equipment Failure. An example is Rotating Equipment.
PUMPS COMPRESSORS BLOWERS FANS ENGINES TURBINES MOTORS
Expert knowledge of the equipment and systems listed above is paramount to understanding our modern world, and any related accident, failure or construction delay as these equipment are integral. Consider this, virtually no business enterprise, facility, residence or form of transportation can operate without some form of rotating equipment. Cogent Experts have both diverse and detailed knowledge and experience with these equipment and systems.
As an example of equipment, “Rotating Equipment” is found in numerous equipment and systems above. The term rotating equipment may include or be included in items such as pumps, HVAC, boilers, engines, extruders, injection moulding equipment, compressors, gas and fuel systems, water and sewer systems, fire water and suppression systems and power systems. As an example, the pump shown above – similar pumping and hydraulic systems are found in just about every commercial setting.
While Rotating Equipment is used in this example, the many forms of equipment and systems are relevant to forensics engineering and expert witness applications. Facilities and process industries rely heavily on many of the engineered equipment and systems at the top of this page.
In Addition to Rotating Equipment, Facilities Rely on Numerous Engineered Equipment and Systems
PIPING HVAC DUCTWORK REFRIGERATION CHILLERS BOILERS FURNACES STEAM AIR SYSTEMS STRUCTRUAL STEEL PROCESS EQUIPMENT REACTORS UTILITIES TRANSFORMERS ELECTRICAL WIRING POWER DISTRIBUTION WIRING FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS
Ranging from residences to commercial facilities, large buildings and industrial complexes, additional engineered systems and equipment are commonly used in construction and operation thereof. No home, office, high-rise or manufacturing facility is found without MEP or Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing systems, inclusive of heating and cooling systems, piping, ductwork, utilities, electrical wiring, distributions, data systems and the like. These relevant systems and equipment and encompass a broad range of technologies typically involved in accident, failure, engineering and construction claims.
As an expert in these relevant technologies, Cogent Experts have extensive experience with these equipment and systems in numerous applications, industries and venues. This extensive experience results from being directly involved in the design, engineering, production, construction, commissioning and/or startup, operation, maintenance, and refurbishment of these equipment and systems. There is no better way to be an expert on these relevant systems and equipment than to participate on these many levels.
Chemical, Process and Manufacturing Engineering
REACTORS DISTILLATION MIXING HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT (PSM) PROCESS HAZARDS ANALYSIS (PHA) STABLIZING CAPPING PLASTICS POLYMERS PULP AND PAPER POLYMERS PACKAGING ELECTRONICS AUTOMOTIVE INCINERATION
in addition to engineered equipment and systems used in a broad and or infrastructural sense, such as HVAC equipment and rotating equipment, Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP), etc., Cogent also has substantial expertise in the engineering of chemical, process and manufacturing units.
Process engineering, in general terms, describes a facility or process typically used to produce a product. Cogent has experience in many chemical, process, and manufacturing processes, such as in the manufacture of electronics, plastics, polymers, copolymers, chemicals, specialty chemicals, coatings, packaging, bio and agricultural products, refinery products, fuels, hydrocarbons, propellants, refrigerants, automotive, transportation, safety products, pulp and paper, energy products, instrumentation products, consumer goods, and the list goes on.
The production or manufacture of goods typically involves transformation of raw or intermediate materials, or both, into a converted form of product with a new function. Chemical process manufacturing typically utilizes a substance such as a gas, liquid or solid or multiple gases, liquids and solids and chemically reacts in a reactor or similar equipment into a product. Polymer and plastics manufacturing as an example, takes raw materials such as hydrocarbons or bio-based raw materials, and performs conversion of these raw materials into a chemical composition with new properties. In the case of a plastic or polymer, the new chemical composition is typically polymerized (the chemical molecules are chained together) to produce a raw polymer which is then stabilized with additional chemicals through various chemical and mechanized efforts.
Other forms of manufacturing may include increased mechanical and electrical processing of materials to manufacture a given product. As an example, the production of paper and/or paper goods begins with the basic raw material would pulp being thermally processed with steam and mechanical pressing to produce raw paper, which is then put through additional processing to produce a cleaner version of paper. Typically, paper is produced in a continuous fashion where additional mechanical processing is used to convert the paper or raw paper into a usable finished product.
These are just a couple high level examples of the many manufacturing and production processes that Cogent has expertise with and can serve as an expert witness thereto. Refer to our BIO section and CVs for more information.
